I totally blew it! What was I thinking? Maybe I ate too much of this ambrosial cheesecake and got all sugar-dazed. Anyway I missed signing the I am the change pledge! It wasn’t until I had returned home from BlogPaws West and was browsing the photos on the Be the Change Facebook page that I realized what I had missed. Yikes!
If BlogPaws is about anything, it’s about being the change for animals!

Okay. So, better late than never. Following Chloe’s lead, I hereby pledge, I am the Change!
There is no end of ways we can be the change for animals. Think for a moment. What are your skills? What do you love to do? Put it to work for animals that need help.
Here are two things I’m using my blog to do during the next two weeks:
1. Write a post, help a lot of dogs! PEDIGREE has agreed to donate 20 pounds of food to shelter dogs for 
every blog that publishes a post about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive. Please join me this Thursday, September 16—Sunday, September 19 in a blog hop. All you have to do is write a short post about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive and join the blog hop (by coming back to Boulder Dog on Thursday and adding your link to the list of blogs below the post), and PEDIGREE will donate a 20 pound bag of their new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs. Click on “Write a Post–Make PEDIGREE Donate 20 Pounds of Food!“ to find out exactly what to say. It’s easy. And, think about this. For every 100 blogs that publish a post, PEDIGREE will donate a TON of food to shelter dogs.
Tell your blogger friends! Spread the word to any blogger you know. They don’t have to be a pet blogger. They just have to care about homeless dogs. If hundreds of bloggers write a post, PEDIGREE will donate many tons of food! We can do this! And, if you don’t know already, the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive sponsored me and nine other bloggers to attend BlogPaws West and to spread the word about “Write a post, help a dog.” How awesome is that?
2. Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week Challenge, September 19-25. This challenge was issued by Petfinder.com
and the BlogPaws Be the Change team.
Who are less-adoptable pets? As Petfinder.com says:
“Big black dogs. FIV+ cats. Senior pets. Special needs animals. Many factors can make a pet seem “less adoptable.”…
Here are some pluses we found to adopting “less adoptable” animals:
- Older pets are mellower – you don’t have to worry about your lamp getting knocked over!
- Physically challenged pets are often unaffected by their handicap – but you still look like a hero!
- “Bad reputation” breeds – you get the chance to prove people wrong with your great dog!
- Dark-furred pets make it easy to accessorize – black goes with everything!
- Pets with behavioral issues allow you to form a tight bond as you overcome obstacles together!
- Big dogs are easier to find when it is time to go to the vet!”
Visit Petfinder.com for a lots of ideas about how to help. This could be HUGE! Imagine all the pets who, through a variety of the efforts of hundreds of people, will find forever homes! I plan to highlight less-adoptable pets on this blog with the hope that by broadcasting their pictures and stories we will increase the likelihood of their finding forever homes.
I can’t wait to see how many pounds of food PEDIGREE donates and how many deserving pets find homes.
Eh, that’s all symbolic anyway- you didn’t blow anything! You’re already taking steps to do something so obviously you took the pledge in your heart. 😀

I’ll second that I too forgot to sign the pledge — and am happy to get absolution from Dr. V (well, as soon as I do something to help, I’m hoping for it retroactively).
